Apple Pie

Apple season is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate than by baking a delicious apple pie? 🍏

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
  • 3-4 tbsp ice water

For the Filling:

  • 6-8 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crust:
    • In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
    • Add chilled butter and cut into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Gradually add ice water, mixing until the dough comes together.
    • Roll out the dough and fit it into a 22cm pie pan. Trim the excess and refrigerate.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
    • Pour the apple mixture into the crust.
  3. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 190°C.
    • Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  4. Serve:
    • Allow the pie to cool before slicing. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
